Americans live in the Home of the Brave but sometimes you would never know it from some of their preposterous fears. Every so often, a new fear will circulate among the public like a bolt of electricity to thrill people with imaginary dread.
~ No experienced 'dread' is
imaginary.The threat may be,,but the dread of the threat is
not.
Terrorists utilize that fact very well.~
When I went on vacation this summer to Westport, Mass., the fear du jour was sharks, an old reliable source of panic.
~ Considering that sharks are predators that have been known to attack humans,( http://www.sharks.org.za/sites-of-shark-attacks.html ),it's not unreasonable for some to fear meeting one in the water on the day one went into the water.
Especially if they have absolutely no experience with sharks.
Is it?
Regardless,,I agree,,they are less dangerous than other perceived threats,,like auto accidents and murderous attacks by fanatical religious zealots.

You are 100% correct.Death by shark attack is not equal to auto deaths or psychotic Islamic murders.
And yet,,like with other forms of tragedy,,one doesn't quite grasp the impact unless it strikes self ,loved ones or in one's own community.~:
James Willie Tellasmon age 9 died November 21, 1998 while swimming off Ocean Beach, Florida. Sadly his torso and legs washed up to shore the next day, and his arms and head were never recovered. Due to the wounds experts were able to establish that the attack was from a tiger shark about six feet in length. Ocean beach is located in Indian River County at Jaycee Park.

One was seen (supposedly) a mile out to sea, and the lifeguards closed the local beach. At that distance, the shark is unlikely to have noticed this closure, but if it did, bubbles would have come out of its smiling mouth indicating laughter.
~Just like Bin Ladin and millions of Sharia compliant Islamist terrorists on shore and off shore most likely did after the WTC mass murder caused Americans and the world to want to run away from possible confrontations with terrorists by ignoring the threat,,right?How fast can the avergae shark swim one mile?~
What wusses these mortals be. It's sharks one day, bedbugs the next, various types of flu every other year and so on. These alarms take a demonstrated danger to people and blow the risk out of all proportion.
~To compare 'fanatacism driven psycopathic murderous behaviour' that is specifically intended to cause human fatalaties to occasionally fatal shark attacks,non fatal bedbugs and various types of rarely fatal flu viruses does nothing but demean the intelligence of the reader.Yet,,they undeniably are 'demonstrated dangers' none the less,,right?Exactly what should have been done?Should the lifeguards NOT close the beach and open them selves up to the terror of having made a tragic mistake and the possibility of legal ramifications that are often incurred under Americas overly lawsuite friendly laws?I have a sneaking suspicion that they simply followed the rules of their job that were in compliance with the old adage,,"Better safe than sorry."~
But my award for most overblown fear this summer goes to the threat of Sharia law -- or Islamic law -- being imposed in the United States. When I say threat, I use it in the "pull my other leg, it's got a bell on it" sense. As threats go, commercial aviation is more threatened by me wiggling my ears and making myself airborne.
~It sure is since even the aviation industry in Sharia controlled nations would be 'ruined' if a man could do so.Of course,,your 'threat' is much more unrealistic than the threat of Sharia Law coming to America (and even shark attacks) when the recent behaviour of our POTUS and other high ranking gov officials formed a 'constructive compliance' with Sharia by displaying NO rejection of it while soundly decrying an American Citizens observance of his First Amendment rights to protest violence in the name of a religion by burning a book.And then not leveling equally enthusiasm filled rhetoric at the equally legal and equally provocativly controversial, insensitive,arrogant,domineering,demeaning act of building an Islamic center so close that it can look over Ground Zero adds one more layer to the 'world perception' that Islams Sharia commands more respect,loyaly and support from the U.S. ruling elite than America's Laws and Citizens do.~
Yet, incredibly, some Americans really do believe that President Obama is determined to introduce Sharia law, and they think the same of those Muslims associated with the controversial community center/mosque proposed near ground zero in New York City.
~Let's examine the the facts of the matter and see how 'incredible' it may really be that some folks may really believe that.

Given that,,do you NOT think he specifically implies having a seperate set of laws for different religions?Would that not mean there would be Sharia in AMERICA?

In a protest there last month, people carried signs painted in dripping blood-red letters that spelled "SHARIA." I get the same warning in e-mails dripping with fearful hyperbole.
These folks have the mistaken idea that Sharia law, which governs the behavior of Muslims, is all about beheadings, stonings and cutting off of hands -- all of which does pass for entertainment in countries still living in the 14th century.
~Those folks were protesting Sharia because they have the correct understanding of it and know that once it gets 'alternative' status it will attempt to gain 'predominance' through violence or political methods as it has throughout it's history.
How many countries are doing that stuff without the benefit of it being 'legalized' under Sharia?
IOW,,,it sure seems like only those nations under Sharia law do such.~
The truth, of course, is that the law of Islam is interpreted differently by different cultures and nations, sometimes moderately and reasonably, sometimes barbarously, so that head-lopping Saudi Arabia is not to be compared with secular Turkey. The world is full of Muslims who are no more likely to attend a hand chopping than readers of this column are.

The coming Eid would expectedly be observed on 9/11, this a golden opportunity for President Obama to offer Eid prayers at Ground Zero and become Amir-ul-Momineen or Caliph of Muslims. In this way, all the problems of Muslim World would be solved,he thought.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Feb. 16 -- The Pakistani government, desperate to restore peace to a Taliban-infested valley once known as the "Switzerland of Pakistan," agreed Monday to enforce strict Islamic law in the surrounding district near the Afghan border, conceding to a long-standing demand by local Islamist leaders who in turn pledged to ask the fighters to lay down their arms.
In announcing the agreement, Pakistani officials asserted that the adoption of sharia law would bring swift and fair justice to the Swat Valley, where people have long complained of legal corruption and delays. They said the new system would have "nothing in common" with the draconian rule of the Taliban militia that ran Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, during which thieves' hands were amputated and adulterers were stoned to death.

The danger of drawing wrong conclusions from literal readings should serve as a caution about Sharia law, too.
~That statement makes sense when referring to 'religious' stuff in NON Sharia compliant nations but NOT to 'law' stuff since literal interpretaion is a pillar of our justice system.
Yet,,when 'religion',as in Sharia,becomes state/federal/official law or shown a preference over existing laws,,can literal readings be safely ignored?
Are our laws related to Christianity in the same way Sharia is related to Islam?No. (Reg Henry even uses Sharia,Islam and Muslim interchangably yet would in no way refer to Law,Roman Universalism and Christian is such a manner.)
Why not?For one,,our government/laws are not as tied to a Christian perspective (hence secular) as Islamic governments and laws are because we are constitutionally bound to being secular.Ergo,unless we wind up with a POTUS who is also a religious official of some sort or another and/or our gov,officially or constructively,acts in compliance with a religions laws in direct violation of our constitution our laws can NOT be Sharia compliant.Besides,,as you well know,,according to many our laws have no basis in Judeo-Christian theology and we are allready one of the biggest Islamic nations in the world according to our POTUS.So,,if showing favoritism to christianity is unconstitutional why is showing favoritism to mohammedism not unconstitutional?~
It is true that, in some Western countries, Sharia law has run into problems in adjusting to the overall community, notably in France and Britain.
~From what I have learned it is more like Sharia has run into problems getting those communities to adjust to Sharia's religious laws attacking and eliminating the concept of one law for all in the nations it insinuates itself into.~
But even in Western countries, no one is suggesting that swords should be sharpened for use after the cricket match or bike race ends on the village green.

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.
The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.
Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.
Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.
It has now emerged that sharia courts with these powers have been set up in London, Birmingham, Bradford and Manchester with the network’s headquarters in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Two more courts are being planned for Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Sheikh Faiz-ul-Aqtab Siddiqi, whose Muslim Arbitration Tribunal runs the courts, said he had taken advantage of a clause in the Arbitration Act 1996.
Under the act, the sharia courts are classified as arbitration tribunals. The rulings of arbitration tribunals are binding in law, provided that both parties in the dispute agree to give it the power to rule on their case.
Siddiqi said: “We realised that under the Arbitration Act we can make rulings which can be enforced by county and high courts. The act allows disputes to be resolved using alternatives like tribunals. This method is called alternative dispute resolution, which for Muslims is what the sharia courts are.”
The disclosure that Muslim courts have legal powers in Britain comes seven months after Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was pilloried for suggesting that the establishment of sharia in the future “seems unavoidable” in Britain.

You can rest easy. Sharia law is not coming to the United States, except as a private guide to faithful Muslims. How could it? According to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, 78.4 percent of adults in this country are Christian. The figure for Muslims is 0.6 percent. If the Muslims miraculously overcome that numerical disadvantage, we should all rethink our position on Allah.
~Speak for yourself on that re-thinking of Allah since higher procreation rates is the easiest way to swell the ranks of any demographic.And baby making ain't no supernatural,spiritual thing,now is it?

,,,,so I think the chances of Sharia Law being in America is well inside the realm of possibility. As one can easily learn from todays news and even a public schools curiculuum,,nations can have laws 'imposed' on them by agencies within and be 'defeated' by agencies outside of them regardless of the 'will' of it's citizens.

(In what sense this is a Christian country is arguable, but it seems to me with that all the hate flying about, it's a bit like the rancher who is all hat and no cattle, except that here it's usually all Christian and no Christian charity.)

You yourself remarked on the disparate numbers twixt Christians and Muslims.
If Christians were NOT charitable,peaceful and following the laws of our Nation and instead acted like Sharia adherents do,,and still acted in accordance to the laws Christ made no longer needed,,exactly how long do you think those numbers would drop to something so close to zero that no one would say how far above zero it is for fear of 'Christians' dishing out exactly what todays psychotic Muslim fanatics dish out so often.~
As usual, people are worrying about the wrong things. We have our Christian ayatollahs, too, and some of them do want to have civil law reflect Biblical law in most of its particulars (stock up on your stones now).

If not,,then their importance dwindles in relation to the people who stood against a private First Amendment following American citizen burning a Koran to protest murder in the name of religion and have not opposed the building of what is easily seen as a provocation by adherents of the same religion as those who murdered a few thousand folks no more than two blocks away.~
For hair-raising reading on this subject, I suggest doing an Internet search on "Christian Reconstructionism" or the theological term "theonomy." I did and found a guy defending the execution of children for the crime of being incorrigible. Lord, help us.

Sharks do not murder for religious-political reasons.

Your arguments are easily seen as not being based on plain logic and factual reality but instead exposes a slanted world view that is either purposely constructed to simply cast denigration and ridicule on the majority of the American public who percieve a threat that you wish to come to fruition or you simply are so blinded by a political party pup mentality that your ability to perceive reality has been 'dhimmed'.
To close,,,have ya seen the 'global warming warning' commercial where it uses a train bearing down on a little girl to represent global warming consequences coming from a distance (in time) that will affect the next (or future) generations safety and well being?
Well,,visualize this,the train is the
religious-political system that propels murderous minded Muslims into
commiting heinous acts that could charitably be said had resulted
from over zealous religious fervor.
(Or you could compare it to a
hungry shark coming from a mile away.)
How about we ALL help derail that train
before it gets here so future peace
loving,tolerant,charitable,AMERICAN citzens can live without bowing
